The client, a woman in her fifties, asked for an urgent appointment. She had the opportunity to take a big step in her life, but this required a courage she felt she lacked at the moment. She had excelled at her job, which she pursued from home since her children had left the house, so that her employer wanted to continue to develop and promote her. For this purpose, she was asked to attend a two-day congress in a distant city. On the one hand, she was eager to go, on the other however, she was panicked because she hadn’t left the house on her own for years.
She got in touch with me as the date of the congress was imminent. Since she sounded desperate, I arranged a Saturday morning appointment with her. On Monday morning, she was scheduled to board the flight which would take her to the congress – time was of the essence!
When she came to me (accompanied by her husband), she told me that she was not able to leave the house on her own because she had repeatedly experienced bouts of panic while going somewhere on her own which were so intense that she was at once robbed of all her energy and that she was literally incapable of moving even a single step.
But now she was well fed up with all the restrictions she experienced; she was dead serious in her decision to change her life. Encouraged by her husband, who had experienced IntrovisionCoaching with me before, she had decided to give this method a try – after various other attempts which had so far been unsuccessful.
In the course of the IntrovisionCoaching, it became apparent that it was not just the fear of moving alone outside of her home, but that she was specifically afraid of having to spend a night alone in a hotel room. It turned out that the fear of being left alone was a central issue because of events earlier in her life – a fact which she experienced as a threat to her very existence. This highly intense IntrovisionCoaching session lasted about two hours. In the course of the session, she managed to reduce her alarms significantly already. The next day, she continued using the audio instructions I had provided her with – and on Monday morning she actually got into the plane! She successfully participated in the congress and sent me two enthusiastic emails afterwards. The second email had the following addendum:
“PS: I have never ventured out on such a trip without my family, and I haven’t been travelling on my own for over twenty years.”
Although this coaching was certainly no “typical” business coaching, it does show in an impressive way the striking effects that are possible by employing IntrovisionCoaching.
